We purposely do not have a definitive list of the signs that indicate whether or not you are a Sex Addict. What we do have are three statements and a screening test (developed by IITAP International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals) to help you decide if you should talk to a trained psychotherapist.
- Is your sexual behaviour compulsive, uncontrollable, obsessive?
- Is your sexual behaviour causing serious problems (e.g. losing jobs or relationships, sexually transmitted diseases, or sexual offenses)?
- Are you excessively obsessed with sex? (i.e you think about sex ALL the time)
In addition to asking yourself these questions, before you come in to see us, you can take a free Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Screening Test (SAST) to assess for the presence of sex addiction and differentiate between addictive and non-addictive behaviour. Please keep in mind that the test is not used as a substitute for receiving professional help.
Take the free standard IITAP screening test here. By following the link you will be taken to an external site to complete the survey
The test was developed by the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP) an organisation that provides world-class educational resources to practitioners who treat individuals with addictive and compulsive behaviours in the areas of finance, alcohol and chemical dependencies, eating disorders and sexual acting out.
IITAP’s Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) programme has provided training to Relationship Therapy & Recoverytherapists in the area of sex addiction over the past decade.
